Luscious Luxe Lips

Last night Madonna strutted the red carpet of Macy’s for the launch of her new fragrance ‘Truth or Dare’.  Wearing a little black Dolce number, our Madge teamed her statement dress with a sophisticated tonal make up palette which almost stole the limelight from ‘that’ killer body.  There’s not many women who could pull off the ‘no make up, make up look’ which Madge demonstrates so effortlessly-jealous?  Us?!  However, we think we’ve cracked the Madonna beauty secret.  With a line of perfectly flicked black eyeliner which is tres classic BTW and a slick of vintage rose lips, and a golden coiffed ‘do’, Madonna’s the epitome of La Dolce Vita.   So inspired by Madonna’s beauty are we, we might take a tip out of Madonna’s beauty book this weekend and recreate the luxe nude Madge lip with Dolce Gabanna’s The Shine Lipstick in Baby Darling for a Madonna lip game set and match.

Health Canada cuts funding to native women’s group

The Native Women’s Association of Canada says all of its funding from Health Canada is being cut, which makes up about 20 per cent of the organization’s total budget.

Claudette Dumont Smith, executive director of the association, said she was “very surprised” by the funding cut.

“The amount is not extraordinary — less than a million. We do a tremendous amount of work,” said Dumont Smith, executive director of the association.

“It’s a drop in the pond, so to speak, on federal moneys. It is surprising that they would choose to cut the Native Women’s Association of Canada. It is surprising when we are trying to improve the health of aboriginal women who are in fact the least healthy of all Canadians.”

The association has offices across the country including the Northwest Territories and Yukon.

Without that money, the association said it will no longer be able to offer its HIV awareness or diabetes prevention programs and will cut four jobs.

Health Canada stated in an email, “The priority is to protect front-line health services for First Nations and Inuit communities. As this organization does not deliver health care services to communities, no direct services will be affected.”

The association said Health Canada is focusing on services for First Nations living on reserve, while 70 per cent of aboriginal women live in rural and urban centres.

Brooklyn Decker Talks About Maintaining Her Fabulous Figure & Her Girl Crushes …

Model-turned-actress Brooklyn Decker has two movies coming out this summer, a tennis superstar husband and a body most women would kill for.

In the May issue of Women’s Health she talks about her drive to stay in shape, exercising with husband Andy Roddick, and her girl crushes.

The former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, who turned 25 on Thursday, says that her husband inspires the way she works out – both mentally and physically.

“Being married to Andy has given me a new appreciation for my body,” she says. “He’s taught me that it’s not how thin you are that matters. It’s how your body performs, how it endures wear and tear.”

Roddick also attempted to teach her his sport, but it didn’t go so well.

“He tried to give me a lesson once, and I ended up hitting all the tennis balls over the fence and smashing my racket because I was so frustrated.

“I told him, ‘You don’t teach me how to play tennis, and I won’t teach you how to model in a bathing suit.’ And so far, it’s worked.”

Brooklyn also reveals how she keeps her sexy figure: “[I eat] like a 12-year-old,” she says.

“I try not to think about foods that are too fattening or too sugary. I always think about why it’s important to eat the best foods. By not obsessing over the bad, I tend to stick with the good.”

The up-and-coming movie star also talks about her girl crushes in the issue, revealing that Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig, sportscaster Erin Andrews and fellow model Marisa Miller are three women she admires.

“Her sense of humor is something we can all relate to,” she says about Wiig. “She’s like the inner soul of every girl alive. She doesn’t care about preserving her beauty on camera—and she is very beautiful. She’s very real.”

ESPN college sports reporter Andrews was the victim of a stalking scandal in 2008, also inspires her.

“You have to love a beautiful woman who knocks down all the stereotypes and becomes one of the country’s best sportscasters. She had to fight for years to be taken seriously, and she did it without once losing her sense of humor or her great enthusiasm.”

Brooklyn also looks up to fellow Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller, who gave her lots of support early in her modeling career.

“When I was a rookie in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Marisa had already been in it for years. But unlike a lot of models who get very territorial, Marisa rooted for the new girls. If there was a job she couldn’t do, she’d pass it on to me. That’s real grace.”

Brooklyn, who starred alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in last year’s flop, Just Go With It, hits the big screens in two big films this summer – What to Expect When You’re Expecting, based on the popular parenting bestseller, and Battleship, based on the Milton-Bradley game.

The May 2012 issue of Women’s Health hits newsstands on April 17th.

A day devoted entirely to women’s health

BLOOMFIELD, IOWA — Davis County Hospital hosted its first annual “Got Pink’d” Women’s Health Fair on Saturday.

It was a day devoted entirely to women’s health.  Attendees could roam around and visit with the more than 20 vendors participating in the health fair.

“It’s geared towards women’s health information – some brochures and presentations about women’s health, breast health to dental health. How important it is to take care of yourself for yearly screenings, TSH’s (thyroid-stimulating hormones) and heart health. Also, we have some fun pampering yourself stuff today. We’re doing massages, and foot checks. It’s about having just a good time,” says Susan Haskell, Mammography Technician at Davis County Hospital.

From skin cameras to information on mammograms, those that attended were guaranteed to walk away learning something new about their health.

One of the booths set up was devoted to informing women on Osteoporosis and the importance of bone density tests.

“I feel it should be ordered a little bit more frequently with your normal mammograms and pap smears.  Women’s health and bone density is extremely important. 26 percent of the people that break their hip die within the first year,” says Tina Mohling from Health Enterprises of Iowa.

Bone density tests measure how strong your bones are and whether you have Osteoporosis. It also can tell you what the likelihood of breaking a bone is.

Door prizes were also given away during the fair and the first 100 women in attendance received a free goodie bag.

Workouts for Moms Expert Holly Rigsby Launches Fit Yummy Mummy’s New Trouble Spot Solution, Runs Promotional Deal Through Friday

Fit Yummy Mummy is launched a new product this week aimed at targeting fat loss for moms in specific target areas. The promotional price is available through Friday

Elizabethtown, KY (PRWEB) April 13, 2012

Fit Yummy Mummy, a fitness company devoted to exercises for moms, launched a new product Tuesday. The Fit Yummy Mummy Trouble Spot Solution offers workouts designed to target specific problem areas. The product is available at a promotional price through Friday.

New moms can struggle to lose fat in specific problem areas, including the butt, thighs, and abdominal region. Despite evidence showing that specific body part training does not target fat loss, busy mom fitness expert Holly Rigsby has designed a workout system that will yield results in these body parts.

“As all women know,” Fit Yummy Mummy owner Rigsby said, “it can be tough to lose thigh, butt, and belly fat after giving birth. Cardio simply doesn’t work, but I have devised a strength training progression sequence that will yield positive results for new moms.

“Many women simply do not know how to lose that mommy belly or their butt and thighs after giving birth,” Rigsby continued. “The Trouble Spot Solution takes the guesswork out of coming up with a workout progression that can target these difficult areas.”

The Trouble Spot Solution has been created to consist of different phases that produce a progression of fat loss. The first DVD targets the butt. The second builds on the first and proceeds to the thighs. The workout plan culminates with the abs.

“There are plenty of bad trainers out there who say they can produce fat loss in specific body zones,” Rigsby notes. “Repeatedly doing crunches or exercise machines that work the butt do not produce real results. You have to train the whole body in sequence.”

Rigsby further explains that cardiovascular exercise, while important in some ways, is not the route to firming these particular problem areas. Traditional cardio can help with endurance, but the research has shown that muscle “toning” is the result of strength training.

The Trouble Spot Solution also comes with several bonuses, including information on working out with kettlebells, interval training, and a meal planning resource.

Such products are in keeping with Rigsby’s goal of providing post pregnancy workouts to women. Rigsby also writes a Fit Yummy Mummy blog to offer nutrition advice and general tips on fitness to new moms.

Fit Yummy Mummy released the Trouble Spot Solution Tuesday. It is currently running a promotion through Friday, offering the DVDs and bonuses at a discounted rate. The entire system is twelve weeks long, but the results could very well change lives.

The Fit Yummy Mummy Trouble Spot Solution is available here: http://troublespotsolution.com/.

Ice Cream’s Freshly Redesigned Website offers Personalized Yoga Clothing to Women of all Sizes

Ice cream athletics, manufacturer of made to fit yoga and fitness apparel for women, is pleased to announce availability of its newly redesigned website (http://www.icecreamwear.com) which makes purchasing custom active wear online a uniquely delightful experience.

Montreal, QC (PRWEB) April 14, 2012

Ice cream athletics has been selling made to measure athletic apparel online to women since 2008. In an effort to improve usability and render its site more engaging, the company recently completed an extensive redesign of its e-commerce website. As a result, ice cream customers now have access to online tools which makes ordering tailor-made sports apparel easy, enjoyable and exciting.

“Our business is inspired by the old-fashion ice cream parlors of yester-years,” says Kareen Massé, co-owner of ice cream athletics. “Our customers get to choose their favorite clothing style, fabric flavor, and specify how the product should be sized. The clothing is then made to measure (locally) and shipped out to them within a couple of weeks.”

The new web site guides its customers through the entire clothing selection process and highlights personalization opportunities when they exist. The user interface is clean, functional and provides detailed explanations of what users are expected to input. Another interesting feature is the site’s use of full screen width and support for increased font sizes. As a result, the new ice cream website displays elegantly on a large variety of viewing devices such as Smart phones, tablets and PCs.

The company took advantage of the rewrite to also put into place many new Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. As a result, the ice cream athletics website has seen a 30% improvement in web search ranking and has enhanced its average page load time to just under 1.8 seconds. (Google rates http://www.icecreamwear.com at 78% faster than other websites). “Our site contains plenty of rich content and includes the right balance of strategic keywords and marketing copy. We make sure to update our content frequently and have structured our pages logically using meaningful titles and descriptions.” explains Philip Grunikiewicz, ice cream’s IT director. “There is very little magic involved in getting better search engine rankings; it’s all about using common sense and putting in the required effort”.

The company consistently displays in the top 20 (in their target markets) for search queries related to their keywords. These include search combinations such as “fitness clothing for women” and “women’s yoga apparel”. Efforts are currently under way to promote an increase in inbound links. A move which the company is confident will lead to even better search engine results.

“Offering made to fit yoga and fitness pants, tops, shorts and tunics is definitely a niche market. But in order to satisfy customers, it’s important that we be attentive to detail” adds Nancy Massé co-owner of ice cream athletics. “What better to demonstrate this, than to have a website which is detail-driven”.

The company’s decision to invest in the new website seems to have paid off generously. The new website not only retains customer’s interest for an impressive 4 minutes (on average) but has also spiked a 12% increase in sales since going live last month. The owners are thrilled with the results and say that they will continue to invest in the website in order to meet the needs of their growing customer base.

Ukrainian beauty accused of swiping $900K from Nicky Hilton's ex hits back in NYC court

Hedge-funder? Try cad. And layabout sponge.

The glamorous Ukrainian-born personal assistant accused of swiping $900,000 from Nicky Hilton’s ex-hubby has taken off the gloves in hope of dodging a threatened prison sentence — calling her alleged victim a bogus moneyman who lives off his parents and hired her only to be his mistress.

Todd Meister — infamous for his six-week marriage to Paris Hilton’s younger sister, Nicky, in 2004 — may think himself a hedge-funder, but in the 10 months she worked for him last year the only affairs he managed involved women, accused embezzler Renata Shamrakova says in vitriolic court papers.

“Todd Meister was not actively managing a hedge fund, and aside from money directed to him by members of his family, he conducted virtually no hedge-fund business whatsoever during this time period,” Shamrakova snipes.

Meister has denied he ever had a romantic relationship with Shamrakova. He has also insisted that he is a legitimate, Harvard-trained financier who, as co-founder of the Pride Rock Management hedge fund, helped manage $2 billion in investments.

But if he was such a big-deal cash jockey, how could he fail to have reviewed his credit-card bills during the 10 consecutive months she was charging them up, Shamrakova asks in her papers.

“It is patently implausible that a successful, experienced hedge-fund manager, of the type Meister portrayed himself to be to the district attorney and to other sources, would have his company’s finances be in this state of disrepair and inattention,” she snarks in her papers.

Make Meister turn over all his so-called “business” e-mails, Shamrakova asked Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lewis Bart Stone, who is presiding over her 44-count grand-larceny indictment.

“These e-mails would demonstrate that he misrepresented the nature of his business and the nature of Shamrakova’s employment, to the district attorney,” her lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, wrote the judge.

Manhattan prosecutors vigorously fought Shamrakova’s bid for such an e-mail fishing expedition, saying it would be a baseless intrusion into Meister’s personal and professional life.

The judge agreed.

Despite the bad news, Shamrakova left court with a smile for the news photographers.

Asked if she still insists that she was hired to be Meister’s mistress — and that the $900,000 she’s accused of charging on his credit cards were “gifts” — she answered, “Absolutely.”

Prosecutors say she took out two American Express cards — one platinum, one gold — in Meister’s name and ran the cards up by traveling to Aruba, Canada, India, Italy and France and buying thousands of pieces of jewelry and other luxury goods she would sell online.

To pay off the cards, she would then sneakily write checks off Meister’s JPMorgan account, the DA alleges.

Shamrakova is countering that, six weeks into the job, she started a romantic relationship with Meister and that her alleged lootings were actually gifts given on the QT.

Prosecutors say, in turn, that Shamrakova is welcome to come in to the DA’s office and substantiate her claim.

“We had repeatedly offered the defendant an opportunity to provide information about the purported relationship had with the victim and to provide any information, witnesses or evidence she had relating this relationship,” assistant district attorney Cory Jacobs wrote in his own papers.

“To date, the defendant has opted not to meet with the District Attorney’s office or provide any additional information in this regard,” he wrote.

“The offer remains open, but any possible meeting must happen in the very short future.”

Women Less Apt Than Men to Get Recommended Daily Exercise

FRIDAY, April 13 (HealthDay News) — American women are less likely than men to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, a new study shows.

Current recommendations call for adults to get at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic activity most days of the week to ward off multiple health problems, including an obesity-related condition called metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome refers to a collection of risk factors — including high cholesterol, high blood pressure and extra belly weight — that increase the risk for heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

The Oregon State University study of more than 1,000 women and men found that women averaged only about 18 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise daily, while men averaged 30 minutes. Participants wore an accelerometer, a device that measured how much daily activity they were getting.

People who got at least 30 minutes of exercise a day were less likely to be depressed, less likely to have high cholesterol and less likely to have metabolic syndrome, the researchers said.

The study was published online in the journal Preventive Medicine.

“It’s pretty striking what happens to you if you don’t meet that 30 minutes a day of activity,” Bradley Cardinal, a professor of social psychology and physical activity, said in a university news release. “Women in our sample had better health behavior — they were much less likely to smoke for instance — but the lack of activity still puts them at risk.”

He noted that depression increases the risk of abdominal fat and insulin resistance, both of which are risk factors for metabolic syndrome.

“Physical activity has been shown to reduce depression,” Cardinal said. “So the key message here is to get that 30 minutes of exercise every day because it reduces a great deal of risk factors.”
